ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON THE SECURITY ISSUES IN THE SULU SEA: TERRORISM IN THESULU SEA AND ITS EFFECT ON MALAYSIA’S SECURITY (MIMA)

The Centre for Defence and International Security Studies – CDiSS, National Defence University of Malaysia (NDU) organised the Roundtable Discussion on the Security Issues in the Sulu Sea and it was the inaugural event of such series to be organised by the CDiSS on a regular time frame on issues pertaining to defence and security.
The roundtable discussions addressed the maritime security threats related to transnational criminal organisation’, arms smuggling, piracy, kidnapping and maritime terrorism. The event was opened by the Vice Chancellor, General Zulkifli Zainal Abidin of the NDU and CDiSS Executive Director Prof. Dr. B.A. Hamzah Andrin Raj was invited as a subject matter expert to speak on terrorism related issues pertaining to the maritime domain on threats of maritime terrorism in the Sulu Sea’s and arm’s smuggling within the SEA waters.
The Roundtable discussions brought together various security agencies within Malaysia and stakeholders to network and build a stronger network of cooperation and understanding between all relevant security agencies involved in the Maritime domain.
